True (formerly Family Planning Queensland) is a state-wide, profit-for-purpose organisation and a leading provider of specialist sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Since being founded in 1972, True has been offering sexual health services through our clinics in metro, regional and rural areas, education across the state both in person and online, and through our sexual violence counselling services. True is here to support you. 

In 2023 we supported 10,514 people in Queensland through our clinical services, and thousands more through education and community services both in person and online.

Sexual Violence Counselling

Our counselling services are free, confidential, and available to people who are aged 12 years and above located within Cairns service areas. 

Sexuality Education 

Our education programs are delivered by experienced educators and available for schools, community, and professionals.

True is a profit-for-purpose organisation improving sexual and reproductive health and advancing safe, respectful relationships for all Queenslanders, through the delivery of clinical, education, and counselling services, and health promotion and advocacy to reduce inequities and improve outcomes. We achieve social change and lasting impact through culturally responsive, evidence-based practice, integrated service delivery and strong community partnerships.

Clare is a General Practitioner with over 25 years of experience as a clinician and educator. She currently works at the Inala Indigenous Health Service and at a specialist outreach Diabetes service.

Tamra is a clinically trained and registered nurse and psychotherapist. She has held strategic and operational executive roles in health, aged care, mental health and culturally safe service models and service design.

Jacqui is a Public Health Physician and GP, and is the Director of Cairns Public Health Unit. She has previously worked as the Medical Director for our sister organisation Family Planning NT.

Tim brings over 18 years of experience as a chartered accountant, having honed his skills at a Big 4 firm and rapidly growing companies and multinationals in Australia and overseas. Tim's expertise extends beyond the numbers, encompassing operational and commercial acumen.

Melinda is a leader with 20+ years’ experience in project portfolio management, IT, governance, and law. She currently oversees project investment portfolio delivery for a South East Queensland utility, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. With broad governance expertise, Melinda is a people-focused leader committed to organisational sustainability and positive community outcomes.

Donna brings 30 years of invaluable experience across hospitals, health services, and healthcare education and training. With a strong track record in senior executive roles across public, private and not-for-profit sectors, Donna has demonstrated exceptional leadership across people and culture, learning and development, and hospital and health services and is committed to creating positive social impact, and advocacy for equity, inclusion and equality.

Lisa Harrison

Director of Nursing and Health Services

Lisa Harrison is a highly skilled and experienced Reproductive and Sexual Health Nurse Practitioner with over 28 years' experience working as a clinician in Queensland. 

Lisa is excited to lead True's clinical and counselling services to continue to provide quality patient-centred care to all people in Queensland.

Stuart Dempster

General Manager - Corporate Services

Stuart comes to True with a wealth of experience, having led financial operations, capital projects, IT transformations, and software projects in both non-government organisations and the private sector. His previous roles include serving as the Executive Director- Business Enterprise at Uniting Church Australia, and CFO at AEIOU, Edge Learning and Open Minds. An alumnus of the University of Manchester with a BA Hons Degree in Economics, Stuart is also a Chartered Accountant (ICANZ).

In the journey to reconciliation, we actively support the delivery of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We also commit to continuous development of culturally appropriate policies and practices which reflect the needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
