Celebrating 40 Years of Queensland Child Protection Week

This week marks Queensland Child Protection Week (6–12 September), celebrating 40 years of communities working together to help ensure every child feels safe and protected. This year's theme, Every Conversation Matters, highlights the power of everyday conversations and turning dialogue into action. At True, we believe everyone has a role to play in creating safer environments and supporting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Our globally recognised Traffic Lights® program continues to be a valuable tool for helping identify, understand and respond to sexual behaviours in children. The program is used by a wide range of professionals, including those working in schools, early childhood education and care services, healthcare, social work, youth services, child safety sector and psychology. The framework groups behaviours into three categories:

Green
Behaviours that are typical and developmentally expected because they are:

• spontaneous, curious and light-hearted
• appropriate for the child's age and stage of development
• about understanding and gathering information, balanced with curiosity about other aspects of life.

Orange
Behaviours that cause concern because they are:

• persistent, frequent or prolonged
• are not expected for the child's age or stage of development
• pose a risk to the health or safety of the child or others.

Red
Behaviours that indicate or cause harm because they are:

• excessive, compulsive or forceful
• secretive or manipulative
• not expected for the child's age or stage of development.

Child Protection Week is an important reminder that keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility. At True, we are committed to supporting professionals, organisations and communities with the knowledge and tools to help keep children safe.
