Cairns Sexual Assault Service

If you have recently experienced sexual assault and need urgent care, you can present to the Cairns Hospital Emergency Department or the police for 24-hour crisis support. 

The office will be closed from the 24th of December 2025 and will re-open on the 5th of January 2026.

If you need urgent support during this period our 24/7 CSAS On-Call Support Worker is available.

Our Services

All counselling and support services are free and confidential.  

We provide specialised counselling in Cairns for anyone aged 12 years and over who has experienced sexual violence, at any time in their life. Our expert counsellors offer a safe, inclusive and non-judgmental space, welcoming people of all genders, backgrounds and identities.  

Everyone’s experience is unique, and we are here to support you with compassion and respect. 

Our services include: 

  • free and confidential support for victim-survivors of sexual violence 
  • trauma-informed care delivered with compassion and sensitivity 
  • face-to-face and telephone counselling 
  • information and support for victim-survivors and their non-offending partners, family members, carers, friends or support people 
  • referral and advocacy throughout police and legal processes 
  • 24-hour crisis support for anyone presenting at the Cairns Hospital Emergency Department or to police after a recent sexual assault 
  • in-service, secondary consultation, and resources for professionals 
  • community education
  • support to access  clinical care, including STI checks, pregnancy testing and emergency contraception.

How We Work

We provide free, confidential and trauma-informed counselling in a safe, respectful environment. 

  • We work at your pace. 
  • We ensure your privacy and safety at every step of your journey. 
  • We can provide translators, sign-language interpreters, and support for cultural or physical accessibility needs. 
  • Detailed information about confidentiality, privacy, and accessing your records will be explained in your first session or can be requested at any time. 

If you need a support person, translator, sign-language interpreter, or have cultural or physical accessibility needs, please let us know. We will arrange appropriate support to ensure you feel safe and respected.
