True celebrated a significant milestone on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, with an event bringing together inspiring pioneers and current industry leaders and advocates to open the True exhibit featured in the State Library of Queensland’s Extraordinary Stories showcase. The exhibit honours 50 years of sexual and reproductive healthcare, education and advocacy across Queensland.
Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, 27th Governor of Queensland and True Patron, attended the event and acknowledged the commitment and impact of June Morris and Marjorie Millburn, who founded Family Planning Queensland, now True, in 1972. Alongside a pioneering team of clinicians, educators and supporters they established what is today a statewide service leading the delivery of evidence-based sexual and reproductive healthcare and education.
True Chairperson, Christine Ip, recognised the commitment of this pioneering group to build something significant from humble beginnings.
“These are life-changing interventions. They improve population health, strengthen gender equity, ease pressure on our public systems, and help build stronger, safer communities,” Ms Ip said.
Featuring photos, resources, and promotion campaigns the exhibit illustrates how the social, political, healthcare and education environment has changed since 1972. From Family Planning Queensland’s foundation and decades of pioneering work, True’s reach and impact as a leader in sexual and reproductive health continues to grow in response to community demand.
Those viewing the exhibit reflected on the challenges and achievements that have shaped the sector, and the stories of courage and progress that continue to influence our work and communities today.
The Extraordinary Stories exhibition is open to the public until May 2026 at the State Library of Queensland.
