Sexuality and ageing

Sexuality develops across the lifespan, from birth through to the later years in life. There are many taboos that can prevent older adults accessing the information and support that they require to maintain healthy sexuality. Older adults may want information about sexuality and relationships but are often too embarrassed to ask. Professionals may not feel comfortable having these conversations.

Areas for discussion-

  • Dementia and consent
  • Inclusive communities for diverse sexualities
  • Internet dating / safety.
  • Increasing STI rates in older adults.
  • Societal taboos regarding sexuality in older age.

  • training for staff in care settings
  • support in policy development
  • group education for clients
