Parent & Carer Information Sessions

Grow your confidence in discussions with the children and young people in your care and learn how to respond to tricky questions with our brand new Parent & Carer Information Sessions.

Why you should attend a Parent & Carer Information Session

Children begin learning about relationships and sexuality early on from their family and caregivers. This learning helps children to develop a healthy sense of themselves and the world around them. On hearing the word sexuality, some people may misinterpret it, confusing it with sex. Sexuality is much broader than biology and reproduction, it encompasses emotional, social, mental and physical aspects and is a core part of being human throughout the lifespan. Children and young people will learn about relationships and sexuality from many avenues, but home is where this valuable learning starts. Daily life creates many opportunities for passing on positive messages about bodies, trust, types of touch, privacy, respect and relationships.

Our Parent and Carers Information Sessions help you support the young people in your life.

Children and young people who have accurate and clear information about bodies, relationships and sexuality are more likely to:

  • Feel positive about themselves and their bodies
  • Be less vulnerable to sexual abuse and exploitation
  • Understand appropriate and inappropriate behaviour
  • Understand and accept physical and emotional changes
  • Be able to talk about sexual matters when it is important.

The benefits of early relationships and sexuality education continue later in life with young people more likely to:

  • Make informed sexual decisions and less likely to engage in risky behaviour
  • Understand the importance of ethical intimate relationships
  • Delay engaging in sexual activity
  • Enjoy their sexual experiences.
