Postnatal care
After the birth
A routine postpartum visit is advised between four to six weeks after delivery. This is a time to assess the woman’s adjustment to life with a new infant and discuss:
- any questions regarding the pregnancy, delivery, and ongoing medical problems
- infant feeding and immunization
- pregnancy spacing and contraception
- continuing problems with vaginal bleeding, urinary or fecal incontinence
The uterine size and perineum can be checked and cervical screening updated.
