On Wednesday 12 June 2024, we successfully hosted our inaugural TrueNorth Conference – the first of its kind, clinical conference specifically designed for health professionals in Far North Queensland.

We had a wonderful time bringing together health professionals from across Queensland to enhance their understanding of sexual and reproductive healthcare in the Far North Region.

Our conference started with a Welcome to Country from Thomas Jia from Jarraga and a keynote from Senator Nita Green. Throughout the day we also heard from incredible health professionals including Dr. Darren Russell, Shannelle Poppi, Amanda Hardy, Kathy Caveny & Taryn McBurney from QPASST, and our own Dr. Samantha Olliver.

They discussed topics such as pelvic pain, contraception, STIs with a focus on MG & Syphilis, gender health, cultural considerations, and sexual assault. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A panel.

The day was packed with educational content, offering learning, networking, and community-building opportunities for health professionals. Attendees included general practitioners, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses.

We want to thank everyone who attended and contributed TrueNorth, your commitment to improving sexual health services in FNQ is inspiring! Thank you to ABC Far North for showing up to highlight the day and all of our stallholders who joined us and shared their resources. Special thanks to Monash University Sexual Violence Response Training Australia for sponsoring this important event.
