True Child & Family Cairns' new move

What an exciting start to the year it has been for True Child and Family Services. We moved into our new premises in Cairns, hired new staff, expanded our programs and got a new car. We now provide three specialist counselling programs, with 10 staff members and an average of 80 clients a week. Our move signifies the growth of the Child & Family services, from a small add on to CSAS, to an independent service in its own right.

Our reputation in the community continues to grow with referrals from the family court, lawyers, police, schools, community organisations, mental health services and parents coming in thick and fast. Our new home has helped us to create child-centred environment that promotes calmness, safety and belonging. We want children and young people to breath into the space, relax and be present. Staff are also enjoying having windows, light, space and trees.

We also finalised the ‘Be Strong Be connected’ Strengths Cards project. This project has been a labour of love that has filled our heats with pride and accomplishment. The card sets will be going on sale from 1st July 2021.
To spread the love, we have gifted an original canvas from this project to each True site (see images on following pages) – we hope you enjoy them as much as we do. We also negotiated the artist involved in the project to paint an original art piece for True, as part of our Reconciliation Action Plans commitments and acknowledgement of First Nations Australians.

Additional canvases have been donated to Perpetual Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne offices. Lastly, we would like to leave you with some pictures of our kindness rock garden we are creating. Children and young people are encouraged to select a rock that speaks to them, they can take it home or gift it to a friend. In return they are encouraged to decorate a rock for the garden for others to choose. If you look closely you may see True values represented in the messages.
