The purpose of the cervical screening course is to deliver knowledgeable and appropriately skilled cervical screening providers capable of enhancing the delivery of the National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP) to Australian women.
True provides a pathway for upskilling of knowledge and skills in cervical screening for medical officers who have previously been trained and worked independently in providing cervical screening/ pap smear services. This option is intended for those clinicians who have not performed cervical screening for some time and are required to undertake re-training and update before re-introducing this service into their scope of practice.

This course comprises of 3 modules:
Module 1 – Theory component
1.5 days with prior *pre-reading online (approx. 6 hours) provided. On Day 2, a practical, hands-on session with clinical teaching associates providing direction from the patient perspective.

Module 2 – Assessment component
Online assessment comprises of a multiple-choice questionnaire. This online assessment is an open book assessment. The online assessment is required to be completed with an 80% pass prior to commencing Module 3.
Module 3 – Practical component
- A minimum of 5 cervical screens performed and recorded in own practice following Modules 1 & 2
- Reflection piece

The aim of this course is to provide experienced clinicians with updated knowledge and practical skills in cervical screening which will enable them to provide their clients with a high quality cervical screening service.
