'Is it True' program

Young people often seek information about sexuality, sex and sexual health. Is it True is an education, information and testing program developed for senior secondary school students. It provides simple facts about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the opportunity for young people to be tested.

The program

Is it True is delivered in collaboration with Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN (the PHN). It was created in response to the PHN needs assessment conducted in 2015-2016, which looked at health concerns and access for young people to services such as STI screening. The aim of the program is to provide responsible, accurate and relevant information on sexual and reproductive health as well as providing access to high-quality clinical sexual health services. The program is conducted over a number of weeks, with key sessions:

Information and education session:

Is it True provides age-appropriate facts covering STIs, blood borne viruses and relationship information, including consent, for Year 11 and 12 students in an all-of-school assembly.

In-school sexual health screening:

Is it True includes the opportunity for young people to be tested by qualified medical and nursing staff, in a completely confidential environment.

Providers and funding

Is it True services are provided by expert clinicians and educators from True. The program is supported by funding from Central Queensland, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast PHN. There is no charge to schools or students.
